Cryo

Cryotherapy uses super cooled nitrogen vapors, evoking a hypothermic state. This reaction to the cold triggers your body to draw blood from your extremities to your core, to protect your internal organs. The blood is looped in this core pattern for the duration of the session-anywhere from 1 to 3 minutes.

Upon exiting the Cryo Sauna your body releases the nutrient-rich, oxygenated blood to flush out toxins from muscles, joints and ligaments. The results are faster and easier recovery from intense work outs as well as recent and chronic injuries.

On average, Cryotherapy reduces injury recovery time by up to 50% and reduces post workout lactic levels by as much as 30%.

The therapy is often incorrectly compared to ice baths (except Cryo is light years ahead!) Athletes regularly use ice to promote muscle recovery; however, Cryo Therapy has shown to be more beneficial, more convenient and has no negative side effects.

Rather than the typical 30 minutes that you’d have to sit in an ice bath, Cryotherapy provides immediate results within a few minutes. 30 minutes in an ice bath drops the epidural layer (skin) to 46 F. 20 seconds in the Cryo Sauna decreases the epidural layer to 30 F. Unlike the ice bath that is a wet environment, the Cryo Sauna is dry-meaning no uncomfortable sting and burn on your skin that ice can cause.

Although a key tool used by athletes to relieve muscle soreness and decrease recovery time, Cryotherapy is also used to help manage chronic pain, decrease pain from arthritis and fibromyalgia, improve circulation, flush the lymphatic system, oxygenate the blood and remove toxins.

Cryotherapy has also proven to reduce anxiety and stress, improve sleep patterns, and increase libido and testosterone levels in men and aides in weight loss. (The Cryo Sauna burns an average of 500-800 calories per session.)

At Rush Sports Recovery we offer Whole Body Cryotherapy, Spot Cryo and Cryo Facials.

During whole body cryotherapy, a person stands in a cylindrical sauna as super cooled air chilled by liquid nitrogen drops the temperature to nearly minus 270 degrees Fahrenheit. When the body is exposed to the cold air, it sends blood from the extremities to the core to protect your vital organs. For the duration of the session, the blood repeats this loop in the core of your body being oxygenated, nourished and detoxified. Once your body resumes a normal temperature, this “supercharged” blood is released back to the peripheral tissues and facilitates healing process

Spot Cryo »

Spot Cryo is a process similar to Whole Body Cryotherapy, however this treatment is given via a controlled beam of vaporized, hyper cooled liquid nitrogen to target specific areas of pain and inflammation, such as a knee, ankle or wrist. The 5-10 minute spot treatment is more effective and efficient than hours of icing. Spot Cryo produces temperature of -22 degrees Fahrenheit and almost immediately begins to reduce pain, inflammation or swelling.

Cryo Facials »

Cryo Facials are given with a wand type machine which applies pressurized liquid nitrogen to the face and neck to reduce pore size, decrease wrinkles and lines, improve blood flow, brighten dark spots, decrease under eye circles and stimulate the production of collagen to tighten your skin.
